# Use Reverse Contact from an AI agent

> Connect Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor or a coding agent to the Reverse Contact API using MCP, the rc CLI or an agent brief, with docs your agent can read.

- Last verified: 2026-11-04

Connect your chat assistant through MCP, or give your coding agent the agent skill and the `rc` CLI. You can also give any agent the agent brief. All three options use the same Reverse Contact API, with the same credit costs for each API call.

## Pick how your agent connects

### Chat assistants: the MCP server

Use the API MCP server to work with Reverse Contact data in a Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor chat. Connect to `https://api.reversecontact.com/mcp` and sign in with OAuth or an API key, depending on your client.

Follow [MCP setup by client](https://docs.reversecontact.com/guides/mcp#setup-by-client) to connect your assistant. The [available MCP tools](https://docs.reversecontact.com/guides/mcp#available-tools) cover enrichment, search, contact details, Lists, bulk enrichment, goals and utility calls.

### Coding agents: the agent skill and rc

Use the `reversecontact-cli` skill when a coding agent writes or runs scripts. The skill teaches the agent to choose commands, read JSON results and exit codes, check credits and follow asynchronous jobs with the `rc` CLI.

First [install rc](https://docs.reversecontact.com/guides/cli#install) and give the agent an API key through the `RC_API_KEY` environment variable. Then install the skill:

**Install the skill**

```bash [Terminal]
npx skills add visum-run/skills
```

The skill works with agents that read Agent Skills. The [Agent skills guide](https://docs.reversecontact.com/guides/agent-skills) includes manual installation instructions and an example session. For other authentication options, see [CLI sign-in](https://docs.reversecontact.com/guides/cli#sign-in).

### Any agent: the agent brief

Paste the [agent brief](https://docs.reversecontact.com/agents#brief-to-paste-into-your-agent) into your agent's system prompt or instructions. Provide an API key through `RC_API_KEY`. The brief links to the API spec and documentation and gives the rules for credits, missing data, asynchronous results and retries.

## Give your agent the docs

Give your agent the documentation index to find pages by task, or a Markdown copy to read one page. If your agent uses tools, connect the documentation MCP server to search and read pages. These resources describe the API and its behavior.

| Resource | Address | What it is for |
| -------- | ------- | -------------- |
| Documentation index | [llms.txt](https://docs.reversecontact.com/llms.txt) | Every page as a Markdown link, organized by developer task, then the endpoint reference by family |
| Full documentation | [llms-full.txt](https://docs.reversecontact.com/llms-full.txt) | Every documentation page in one text file |
| Markdown copy of a page | Append `.md` to the page address, for example [agents.md](https://docs.reversecontact.com/agents.md) | Read one page as plain Markdown, with links to its web page, the index and the endpoint catalog |
| Endpoint catalog | [catalog.json](https://docs.reversecontact.com/catalog.json) | Every endpoint with its method, path, credit cost, mode, status and docs page. Also lists replacements for retired endpoints and those under maintenance, and the last verified date for every page |
| OpenAPI spec | [openapi.json](https://docs.reversecontact.com/openapi.json) or [openapi.yaml](https://docs.reversecontact.com/openapi.yaml) | Every operation with its parameters and responses, docs page (`externalDocs`), credit cost (`x-credits`), mode (`x-mode`) and status (`x-availability`) |
| Documentation MCP server | `https://docs.reversecontact.com/mcp` | Search and read documentation over Streamable HTTP with `search_docs`, `get_page`, `list_pages` and `list_endpoints`. No authentication required |

The documentation MCP server at `https://docs.reversecontact.com/mcp` reads the docs. To call the API, connect to `https://api.reversecontact.com/mcp` with OAuth or an API key, as described in [Connect AI agents (MCP)](https://docs.reversecontact.com/guides/mcp).

## FAQ

### How do I connect Claude to the Reverse Contact API?

Connect Claude to the API MCP server at `https://api.reversecontact.com/mcp` using the MCP setup guide for your Claude client. The API MCP server accepts OAuth sign-in or an API key, depending on the client.

### How do I install the Reverse Contact agent skill?

Install the `rc` CLI and provide an API key through `RC_API_KEY`. Then run `npx skills add visum-run/skills`. The `reversecontact-cli` skill teaches coding agents that read Agent Skills to use the CLI.

### What is the difference between the API MCP server and the docs MCP server?

The API MCP server at `https://api.reversecontact.com/mcp` calls the Reverse Contact API and requires OAuth sign-in or an API key. The documentation MCP server at `https://docs.reversecontact.com/mcp` searches and reads documentation without authentication.

### Do AI agents use the same credits as the REST API?

The API MCP server, the `rc` CLI and an agent following the agent brief all use the same Reverse Contact API. Each API call costs the same credits regardless of how the agent connects.

### How do I give Cursor the Reverse Contact API docs?

Give Cursor `https://docs.reversecontact.com/llms.txt` to find pages, or append `.md` to a documentation page address to read the Markdown copy. The documentation MCP server at `https://docs.reversecontact.com/mcp` also provides tools to search and read the docs without authentication.
